Skilled Programs
Below is a list of our programs for rowers who already have rowing experience. New rowers interested in taking one of our Learn To Row classes are not required to pay a membership to take the class. Please see our Learn To Row page for more details, or our Novice Program page.
BCR’s rowing programs attempt to match the skills and development progression of participants. One size does not fit all with respect to training programs and coaching curriculum so we offer coached programs with distinct intentions and overarching goals.
You must be a BCR member (or pay a Drop-In fee) to join these programs, and fees will apply where applicable.
Club Coached Squad
For 2024, our main coached program is named “Club Squad” and accommodates both recreational and race-focused rowing. There will be opportunities to develop skills for all athletes and to train seriously for races, receiving a coach’s attention from a launch and critical feedback.
Practice Times:
Flank Season (before Memorial Day, after Labor Day): Tues & Thurs @5:30 - 7:30am; Saturday @9 - 11am
Summer Season (Memorial Day - Labor Day): Tues & Thurs @5:15 - 7:15am; Sun @7 - 9am (Aug 18, Aug 25, Sep 1 are 6:15am - 7:45am)
There are a few fee options for this coached program:
On The Water Season Pass for $880 (this will cover the full 6 month season: May-October.
Monthly Coached fee is $160
Summer Season fee is $445
Summer Collegiate: $250
*All programs (except for the summer collegiate option) require our annual Membership fee. See Membership page for details.
Skills & Drills (Wednesdays)
This coached course runs during the summer season and is a comprehensive development program focused on improving technique, enhancing mobility, and refining rowing skills through a combination of structured movements and targeted drills. This program is designed to help you reach the next level in your rowing journey.
Practice Times: Weds @ 5:15 - 7:15am
Participants join through Boathouse Connect (“2024 Skills and Drills Wednesdays”) and will be billed a Drop-In Fee per session at the end of each month.
Independent Rowers
At BCR, we want to support and encourage all rowers, including those who prefer to row independently of coached programs. This program aims to support skilled rowers who row both for recreation or for regatta training. There is no cost to this program on top of BCR membership, except for the option of joining Skill & Drill on Wednesdays.
Practice Times:
Mon & Wed @ 5:15 - 7:15am
Fri @ 6 - 8am
On Boathouse Connect, join the “2024 Independent Rowing (Self-organized)” group. Joining the group will unlock recommended "practice" times where you can mark attendance to facilitate organization with your teammates. The survey conducted in recent weeks indicated that this is the most-desired structure for a BCR Non-Coached program for skilled rowers who want to train outside of coached practices.
The practice time for this group is the same time as the Learn To Row programs for Mon & Wed, but equipment overlap should not be an issue. On Wednesdays there may be equipment overlap with Skill and Drill - members are encouraged to drop into this coached session with Roman for a focus on technical work.
NOTE: you must be certified at the appropriate level to check out club shells outside coached practices (having passed a flip test), and if you are in a sweep boat you must have a BCR-approved coxswain (contact us for details). All BCR equipment must be reserved through Boathouse Connect. The same gate restrictions as above apply to this group (through the gate by 5:30am).
Signup Procedure for All Programs
Step 1: Visit Boathouse Connect and create an account. After your account is created, select “BCR - Boulder Community Rowing” from the drop down on the page to request to join the organization.
Step 2: Once your account has been approved to join BCR, you can join the programs of your choice by going to Groups -> My Groups and joining the group related to your program.
Before you can join any coached programs or payment group such as our “On-the-Water-Season-Pass,” you will need to join the 2024 Full BCR Membership Group that will prompt you to pay a membership fee. Then you will have access to the program and payment groups to choose from. For example: “On-the-Water-Season-Pass” will get you access to the entire season or practices. The “May-on-the-water programs” group will give you access to the May Club Squad practices and the same for the monthly groups you will find listed. You can also choose the summer season option which means joining the “2024 Summer Season Pass Group”.
Step 3: If this is your first year with BCR, you will need to add a payment method to cover the cost of the programs you joined in Step 2. You can do this by going to Finances -> My Finances and adding a debit/credit card.
Step 4: You can set your attendance plans for the coming month by going to Practices -> My Attendance. If you don’t see any practices on this page, you may not be in the right groups. Go to Groups -> My Groups to join the appropriate groups for the programs you are participating in.
